We can make a difference.

We are unique individuals.

Theodore Hesburgh was said:

The very essence of leadership is that you have to have a vision.

That vision for Oak Ridge High School’s Junior Class is that we become one.

We do this not by losing our individuality but combining our potentials.

No longer do we have to live in a society where our opinions go unnoticed.

The internet has opened the door for the flow of democratic process.

We live in the United States of America and every man is created equal.

You should know what is happening. You should voice how you feel.

Why is there student government?

Why?

Student government has strayed away from its purpose.

It is not a position.

It is a job.

A job elected by the people for the people.

A job with the responsibility to lead over 400 people to serve each and every single one in the best possible manner.

A job to help mobilize over 400 unique people to accomplish any task.

I, Rowan Chakoumakos, is willing to take this job and lead.

We are going to make a difference. We will set the example. We are the future.

Prom is one of the responsibilities of the Junior class president.

How is the Chakoumakos campaign going to deal with this issue?

I believe that it is important that you have the ability to voice your opinion. Prom should not be designed by a select few. Therefore, during the year there will be online polls much like the ones available on Chakoumakos.com, along with open forums to discuss. Don’t let the decision of your special night fall into a select few, vote Chakoumakos Friday, May 16 for Junior class President.

The wonderful state legislators have required all school with state funding to require at least 90 minutes of exercise during school hours. All those sports you play do not count towards those 90 minutes and neither does walking to class. They want schools with no additional funding to set up a way that they can get every single student 90 minutes of exercise per week. How does that sound? Especially since of them suggests doing a school dance song in the morning. Wouldn’t that be nice to get the whole school sweaty right at the beginning of class. Don’t worry about that one I along with other Superintendent council representatives have knocked that one out quite easily.

What does this mean to Oak Ridge High School students?
It means the school has to pick one of the following options.

-Extending the school day 30 minutes longer
-Requiring Junior and Seniors to exercise 18 minutes before going off-campus
-Shortening the amount of time to get to class
    -Shortening Class
-Requiring teachers to include exercise into their lesson

I have expressed my animosity towards these required law repeatedly at the Superintendent Council Meetings along with discussing alternative options to lengthening the school day because it is already long enough. The Superintendent along with other school systems are trying to petition this law.

What can you do to change this?

From Jeff Nolan’s site:

High school elections have really come a long way when 1) your campaign reaches outside of your school, 2) you know your pagerank, and 3) you are publishing news releases and “original articles on leadership”.
